The trees are taller, the grass no longer patchy, the bushes rustle
in the breeze and the whitewash on the plantation-style house
appears less stark.
Riders Lodge now has the “lived in” look that one associates
with
a beloved home.
Indeed, it felt like a homecoming - with a number of familiar faces
amongst the staff who came to the door to greet us as we alighted
from our car.
Lanie, Modesto, Ramon and Chef Leon were in the foundation crew
who were there when Riders Lodge opened in 2001 - when we first
discovered this gem set amongst a thousand acre of oil palms.
The stables are fuller - with 30 horses. And three full time riding
instructors to cater to kiddies’ lessons, riding camps and trail rides.
We watched children - excited about mounting a horse.
Urban kids, yet fearless of the mounts - feeding and patting the horses
whilst waiting for the group to gather.
And then set out on a long gentle walk. Ourselves and the breeze
and a clear blue sky.
